About

Sally Cataldo
Although I’m small of stature and quite in nature when you put m in front of an easel, brush in hand, my alter ego appears – bold, rich with saturated color, multi subject forms of figurative, landscape, cityscape and still life.
I try to capture an atmosphere of light and color which takes you beyond the surface. When you speak with me about my process, I’ll tell you, “Experiment always.” My studio has been cleared of any previous work so I have a fresh new start. I try to capture a sense of mystery. The images are there, void of set process which brings spirit and strength. My solid techniques and sureness of brush stroke allows me the freedom to express.
I am a watercolor painter but I prefer not to be called a watercolorist. They are paintings; the medium is beside the point and tends to put a stigma on the work. I have created a lucid movement with attention to details and a sense of being involved, of belonging. There is an expanse and depth that one rarely sees. That is the way I view life.
I was raised in Modesto, California with art being primary in my education, my artist mother, Fran Hurd, encouraged and nurtured me to think creatively. I have always had an active mind and it comes through in my bold and vivid paintings.
